Start Ups: Flex Space may be Your Answer

By in Business Space for Lease with 0 Comments

Many great ideas for start-up companies start from the comfort of one’s home. Whether it’s a small apartment or the garage of your house, if you’re trying to make it in the business world you might outgrow your beginner space.

When making the choice to expand your business, it’s important to take time and research what would work best for your needs.

Typical office space and leases may not work best for a budding business. Landlord interests and lack of flexibility may differ significantly from what a start-up needs. If you only need a space for a quick meet and greet, it doesn’t make sense to lease a whole office for three years (a typical office lease length) or even for a month (some leases offer month to month).

That’s where flexible workspace fills a very important need for temporary or very short term space. Flexible office space can vary from simple flex space to executive suites.

Flex suites (sometimes called spec suites) are when the spaces are built out to a point that they are move-in ready; often they are unfurnished but can sometimes come equipped with as little as a desk.

Then there are executive suites, which are those that have all the bells and whistles, are usually fully furnished/equipped and downright impressive; they’re practically fully functioning offices designed for the corporate idea but with the short term mindset.

In between those two extremes, there is co-working and shared office space, which can be thought of like Airbnb for office space. They are typically spaces where someone can sit down and use just a desk for a very short time.

A start-up may even need a combination of the flex spaces above; book the executive suite to impress a potential business partner, have a Flex Suite across town where you and the team can spread out, or book a quick co-working space on a business trip when the hotel doesn’t have a desk!

Choosing to use a flexible office space has many benefits, such as saving money on rent, providing access to amenities or technology that might not usually be available, flexibility on location and relieving the stress of being locked into a long term contract.

So whether you’re trying to get your feet wet in the corporate world or trying to improve your level of professionalism, a flexible space for your work just might be the answer.
